Major General S M Shamim-Uz-Zaman, SBP, BSP, ndc, psc


Major General S M Shamim-Uz-Zaman, SBP, BSP, ndc, psc was born on 02 January 1965 in Khulna, Bangladesh. He was commissioned from Bangladesh Military Academy with 11 BMA Long Course in the Corps of Infantry on 21 December 1984. He joined Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli on 25 June 2021 as Ambassador.

Major General Shamim has a wide experience of command, staff and instructional appointments in the Amy. He served in different capacities in infantry units and commanded an Infantry Battalion. He commanded two Infantry brigades. He was General Officer Commanding (GOC) of an infantry division on the north eastern part of Bangladesh. He was also a Directing Staff and Instructor Class A in Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He was instructor in School of Infantry and Tactics. He was also a Platoon Commander in Bangladesh Military Academy. He served in an Infantry Division as Colonel Staff. In Director General of Defence Purchase, he served as the Director General. He was serving as Military Secretary to the Honourable President of Bangladesh before joining Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He completed his Bachelor's Degree from Chittagong University, Masters in Defence Studies from National University, Bangladesh and Masters in Military Science from Madras University, India, He qualified in several professional courses both at home and abroad, like, Green Arrow Missile Course in Pakistan, Army Staff Course at Mirpur, Amy Staff Course in Wellington, India. He also attended Advanced Security Cooperation Course in Hawaii, USA and National Defence Course at Mirpur.

He participated in United Nations Peace Keeping Missions in Bosnia, Sierra Leone and Liberia. He also commanded Bangladesh Military Command to Kuwait for more than four years. He was awarded with Army Medal and Distinguished Service Medal for his peacetime outstanding contribution.

He published ‘Unfinished Memories’ of Bangabandhu in Arabic in Kuwait. He also received 'Force Commander's Commendation' while serving as Military Observer in Bosnia for his courage and bravery.

Major General Shamim is a widely traveled person and visited many countries. He is happily married to Rehana Yeasmin and blessed with a daughter and a son.
